Easter Sunday in Monticello

On Sunday we attended Church in Monticello.  We were a little early and Derek and Darcy were restless so I took them outside for a walk.  The church building is right next to the temple, so we walked over and took a few pictures.

Late Sunday afternoon we stopped at Delicate Arch.  It was more of a hike than we anticipated and it was hot, and dry and dusty so there was some complaining.  It made me reflect on the Savior's difficult path to Golgotha and Jeff Goodrich's song, "the road to Golgotha," kept playing in my mind:

The road to Golgotha,

The road to Golgotha,
The road to Golgotha,
You'll never know
You might see the rocks and trees
You might hear the wind blow there, but
The road to Golgotha you'll never know
You might say you've walked the way
You might feel something there still, but
The road to Golgotha you'll never know
You might sigh and wonder why, even cry when you see where he died, but
The road to Golgotha you'll never really know

There are no words to express the love and gratitude I have for my lord and savior Jesus Christ.  I am grateful everyday for the blessings and opportunities granted me through his suffering and great sacrifice.  I am grateful for the Easter season and the chance to reflect upon his life, atonement and resurrection.  I know my Savior lives, that he loves me, and that through him all things are possible.

Spring Break 2014 - Part 5 Delicate Arch, Twin Arches, and the Easter Bunny

We were cracking up over this picture.  I don't know why Darcy's pajamas were unsnapped, but the shape of her diaper and pattern on it make it look like she just laid an egg.

Spring Break 2014 - Part 4 Four Corners, Hovenweep, and Natural Bridges (Sipapu)

Four Corners has completely changed from when I was there as an 8-year-old kid.  All I remember is a square cement pad, but there is a whole monument now.

After leaving Four Corners we drove to Hovenweep just outside of Blanding, Utah.  Jeff's friend Richard recommended it and it was really worth the stop.  It's incredible how the structures are built right on, and even into, the cliffs.  The first structure is called the Stronghold House and the kids were so excited to have me take a picture of them with it perfect header for this blog.  Hopefully I will get it up there soon!

Aiden was really good about playing Plants vs. Zombies with Derek while we hiked.  It was a great way to keep Derek engaged and from noticing that he was tired.

Our final sight of the day was Natural Bridges (more specifically Sipapu).  It was an amazing, and little bit scary) hike.  There were parts of it where the cliff just dropped right off and we had to climb down log ladders that had been anchored to the rock.
