At the end of May a fellow celiac told me that Dominoes Pizza now carries gluten-free crust. Delivery pizza, gluten-free? Awesome! So as soon as we had a chance we ordered. It was like Christmas. When I brought it in AJ said with wide eyes, "Where did you get this? It's gluten-free?" And then with excitement in her voice, "We have never had pizza delivered to our house before!" It was amazing ;). So you are aware they will advise you that there is a possibility of cross-contamination, but we have now eaten there twice without problems.
And while I am on the subject of food I thought I would post our top 5 (other) favorite places to eat (in no particular order):
1. Costa Vida - They have "Ocean's of Gluten-free options" ;). Service is fast and friendly! I can get a fully satisfying meal, that is healthy, yummy, completely filling, my kids love it, AND can feed my whole family for around $30. We also love the atmosphere and the fact that we don't have to wait for our food (hard to do with kids or when you are really hungry, ha!). D especially loves the real "waterfall" and J loves watching the surf competitions they always have on the big screen.
2. Wendy's - Variety! And convenience. I think Wendy's is the drive through option for a celiac. They have all kinds of healthy choices: baked potato, sweet potato, chili, salad... The burgers are also ok as long as they are without the bun. My kids love the jr. bacon cheeseburger (without the bun of course) and french fries. And we are all big fans of the frosties. You can also get apple slices instead of fries with the kids meal. We can all eat for around $25-30.
3. Jason's Deli - Their salad bar is divine, but they also do sandwiches on gluten-free bread. I think AP could fill up on their pickles alone, but he (and the other kids) love the grilled cheese and the ice cream bar (that comes with any meal) as well. Again, we don't have to wait for our food, and we all eat for around $35.
4. Chik-fil-A - They will do grilled chicken nuggets or strips (no breading) and I love their salads and breakfast menu. Scrambled eggs and potato rounds for under $2. Their waffle fries are also safe and I like that the "toys" in the kids meals are educational or books.
5. Red Robin - A few months ago I had to take AP to have some bone imaging done S.L. He had to have a dye injection, so we had to wait a couple of hours for that to take effect and it was lunchtime so I took the boys to Red Robin. I don't remember what AP got exactly but he raved to our waiter about how delicious it was and that it was the best burger he had ever had. Their steak fries are also safe, they have yummy salads, and I got a chicken sandwich the last time I was there that I am craving right now... It is one of the few sit down restaurants that I think is worth the food and price.
You are making me hungry :) There is something pretty neat about eating home delivered pizza. I don't know why it is for kids, but for a mom the convenience is unbelievably helpful at times.
