Oh how I love this boy!

Can't believe my sweet boy is six!  For Derek's birthday he wanted to go to Build-A-Bear to get his present from Mom and Dad.  Here he is waiting patiently for the store to open.  

He chose a powder blue bear with brown paws and ears.  He named him Erek Skywalker.  Here he is giving Erek his first hug after being stuffed.

Now he is putting lots of love into Erek's heart before it goes into the bear.

And here Erek becomes a Jedi!  

After getting his bear we went to the Lego store to spend his money from grandparents.  The lady working there saw he had a Star Wars Build-A-Bear and so she took him directly to the star wars themed lego sets.  They talked about all of the cool sets, but Derek had his heart set on The Build and Boat Fun set that he had seen in Lego Junior catalog.  He told the lady he wanted to share it with Darcy and he kept talking about how much fun they were going to have playing with it.  Both of the ladies working at the store said that was the sweetest thing they had seen, and asked if they could give him a special birthday gift.  So they gave him a lego batman t-shirt and star wars mini-figure for free.  That night he was very excited to try out the set he bought during her bathtime.

He also really wanted a plush turtle (he had actually wanted a turtle from build-a-bear, but they were sold out) so on our way home we stopped at Quilted Bear to see if they had a turtle webkinz he could buy with the rest of his grandparent money.  They didn't have a webkinz, but they had this darling one that he fell in love with.  He named him Toby and has been sleeping with him and Erek every night since getting them.

The Friday before his birthday we had an Angry Birds Star Wars party with some school and neighborhood friends.

As the opening activity they colored angry birds star wars guys that we made into masks.

They had fun playing outside, running, jumping, playing tag, and digging in the sand.  We also played angry birds bowling and used our angry bird sets to build and launch/knock down levels.
