So patient and helpful

I am not opposed to immunizations.  In fact I believe they have a lot of value.  However, I do think parents should be better informed about what they actually are, how they work, and what components are contained in each vaccine as well as how various vaccines can react together.  Every person is different and I am convinced, that like anything else, genetics influence how different people will react to different vaccines.  For example, Aiden had a severe reaction to his MMR at 13 months, resulting in several seizures in the two weeks following that shot.  He was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome when he was six years old.  Now whether that shot triggered his autism or the autism triggered the seizures I don't know, but I have been very careful about immunizing my other kids.  I have followed an alternate immunization schedule with Derek and opted out of the MMR completely.  As a result of that decision I had to get an exemption waver signed at the Health Department before he could start Kindergarten.  So we headed out to the Health Department, but when I asked for the signature the lady at the desk told me I needed an apointment.  Sigh.  Its not easy dragging little ones around, but ok. She did have an appointment available in two hours so I decided to go run some errands and come back.  Two hours later we returned only to wait another hour just to have the nurse sign a paper and hand it back to me.  She didn't ask me questions about it, we didn't discuss anything, she just signed the paper, asked if I had questions (I didn't_I have spent a lot of time researching this) and handed it back to me.  Seriously??  I might as well have just left the paper and come back for it.  It would have saved me a ton of time and hassle.  On the upside Derek was a very patient and helpful little soul wanting to hold Darcy and help her to be happy. He was so great to have along!
