As with most things lately, Christmas came suddenly... Christmas eve we had the sister missionaries over for dinner and festivities. We're pretty low key around here, so the festivities definitely weren't grand, but felt just right to me. After dinner we decorated sugar cookies, then we moved into the living room to sing Christmas hymns and read the Christmas story in Luke. The sisters had an appointment after that so we sent them off with a gift, and then let the kids each choose a gift to open. Then it was off to bed (for the kids anyway).

Christmas morning was a nice surprise. We had told the kids at the beginning of December that this year Christmas was going to be electronic free. There was much weeping and wailing over this, but they finally accepted it and it was good to get the disappointment over early, because I think this was the first time there were absolutely no complaints about what was or wasn't under the tree. This first picture is very blurry, but I'm including it anyway because it's the only one I have of the "big entry."
Aiden was pleasantly surprised to see Santa had brought him Benny's Spaceship lego set from The Lego Movie
Darcy was only interested in the swivel cars that Santa brought as a family gift.
Enjoying the spoils
Jeff volunteered to help put on lunch for his co-workers who had to go in Christmas day so he took off noonish. Once he got back we loaded everyone up and drove over to Telegraph trail to visit the originally Alice Springs (which is actually just a smallish water hole). We splashed in the water a bit and did a little hiking and then headed home to enjoy a quiet evening. It has actually been rainy here the last couple of weeks (not at all normal for summer in the Red Center) and cool (high 70s, low 80s) so it was a beautiful Christmas day!
One of the best holidays ever! Big thanks to Heather & the kids for making this Christmas one of my favorites.
