The day after we got back from San Diego was AJ's Biztown fieldtrip. Biztown is an all day experience that the kids spend weeks preparing for. They learn about managing a job as well as their money and then they get to go and experience what they learned. I was one of the parent volunteers and had to be there at 8 AM for an hour of training before all of the kids arrived and wouldn't be getting home until after 2 PM so my mom came out to spend the day with Derek (Thanks Mom!). AJ got a job as a bank teller. Here she is happy at work:
They had to attend town meetings as well as their jobs and they each got 2 short breaks during the day to eat lunch and go shopping with their newly acquired paychecks. There was a "restaurant" where they could buy snacks as well as other stores that they could buy all kinds of things from. It is really an awesome set-up and great experience for the kids. It was funny to hear them say things like, "This is hard work! No wonder my mom and dad are so tired by the end of the day," and to see how exciting it was for them to get their paychecks and get to go shopping.
