Opinions Needed

We have 13 young women who will be graduating from high school at the end of the month and coming into Relief Society.  To welcome them in we asked their mothers to write down their testimonies as well as ways that Relief Society has blessed their lives and also asked them to invite any other women of influence in their daughters' lives to do the same.  We as a presidency also wrote them a letter and asked the bishop to do the same. My first counselor has been busy collecting and compiling these letters into a little book to be given to each girl along with a copy of Daughters in my Kingdom.  The Laurels are having a Mother/Daughter party this Wednesday and my presidency is going to the last 15 minutes of this activity to give them their books and welcome them.  So, I thought it would be fun if we dressed up in one of the following two ways:  Dress in the attire the we would have worn at their age (we would end up with somone from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s) and say, "We my be a little out dated but we still know how to have fun!" I think the girls would get a kick out of this and help them see that Relief Society is not boring.  Then we could talk about how Relief Society has helped us mature in the gospel and as women.  Or I thought we could each dress up in a way to reflect our individual personalities (for example, I would come looking a little desheveled and acting very spacey, hee, hee and my first counselor, who is very organized and on top of things would come with her hair perfect, looking all professional, and a clipboard in hand...) and talk about how Relief Society is a place for everyone, no matter our various personalities or imperfections, and that even though we are different we all share a love of the Savior, the gospel, and each other.  My counselors/secretary said they are happy to do whatever and to just tell them what to do.  SO, anyone think one idea is better than the other or that one might be more fun, influential, etc?  I would love input! Thanks :)

  1. Both ideas are GREAT!! However, when I think what would my young women really relate to? I thikns it is the dress in attire one. It could give them a good laugh and like you said show them that Relief Society is a fun place to be.

    Good luck!

  2. This is quite a dilemma. Both are powerful. I think I would go with the first one just because it would be easier for me, but the second one would be hilarious. I think it depends on the personality of this particular group of YW.

  4. Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it. I think we will go with the first one. We'll act out some of the fears that go along with graduating and moving on and how these are resolved as we become involved in Relief Society :)
